Living The Organized Life
/During this time of year I’ve been so determined to accomplish a slew of home projects, finally tackling spaces I walk past everyday. As most of you know, clutter increases stress and can negatively impact ones health, so might as well get started. Some of you may have already begun seizing the day, charging forward with an “enough is enough” attitude, while others of you may be looking around for motivation to start.
I know it can be tough…during this season where we’ve been staying in our homes, working from home, or perhaps trying out new careers because the old ones have gone away. Ultimately, no projects have been started and everything still looks the same. Well I’m here to say, don’t beat yourself up about it! Trust me, I have tons of things on my “while I’m home” to do list that just seem to remain daily. With working from home a ton of hours, virtual school for my daughter that turned into night and weekend school, plus many other projects supporting my husband, it wasn’t long till I felt the hustle and bustle will be back squeezing time. Well eventually I just decided to start. To make realistic goals that made sense based on my lifestyle and not based on someone else. You can do the same thing!
Perhaps you’re plagued by deeper concerns like the loss of a loved one and constantly seeing nostalgic items that remind you of that person. Perhaps you’re holding on to important memories that have framed your life.
I like how Jennifer Baumgartner Psy.D. in Psychology Today addressed this:
“Nostalgia can make clearing out a space nearly impossible. Holding onto something is acceptable when it has become a vessel for an important memory…Our junk becomes the object upon which we project our internal experience that we have yet to recognize in ourselves. What we fail to recognize is that we are the embodiment of our experience. Like a stone rolling along a shore, we are shaped by all of our interactions.”
Right now grab a piece of paper and pen and begin writing down all the areas of your home that need to be decluttered, cleared out, and organized. Then write an intention: say how you really want those spaces to look. Then go to those spaces and read the intention that you wrote down every day until those spaces are fully cleared and look like your intention. I love to do these practices in my Success Journal by Stacia Pierce. Click here to grab one for yourself. You’ll be happy you did!
What worked for me was to use my weekends to do at least 1-2 projects. Some weekends work better than others, but I’m happy to say I’m checking things off the list.
Recently I finally reorganized my closet! Talk about a sigh of relief!
I still remember my home consultation with my good friend Sharita from @happyhomemanager. She gave me excellent advice of how to transform my closet into something I could maintain and not an unrealistic set of organized space. Feel free to contact her via Instagram.
Enjoy these tips for creating your own wonderful closet space!
Make it easy by clearing your entire closet or shifting clothes around so a fresh cleaning can be done
Use products from https://www.becleanbewell.com/ to safely eliminate germs and bring a fresh smell!
Purchase colorful and decorative storage bins like the ones seen below from Walmart. These are great to store small items or out of season accessories
Fold clothes in drawers so you can see all available apparel. It will save time and avoid a messy drawer soon after reorganizing
Decorate your space and have fun with it!
Now go create your list and tackle what you really want for your home!
